ADA website compliance checker

ADA demand letters cite specific things: a size picker a screen reader cannot select, a cart drawer that traps keyboard focus, a checkout field with no label. This check looks for exactly those on your store and tells you the change that removes each one.

What the check covers

  • WCAG 2.2 AA checks with the axe-core engine on your live pages — images without descriptions, low contrast, unlabeled form fields, missing headings, keyboard traps, focus that disappears.
  • The product pages, collections and cart a shopper actually uses, on desktop and phone layouts, not just the home page.
  • Search and speed findings alongside: titles and descriptions search engines read, images that load late or heavy.
  • A specific fix for every finding, written for the theme you use — and for Shopify stores, the fix applied in your theme with your approval, the original saved first.

The ADA and websites, as of September 2026

  • Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act is applied to business websites by most federal courts and by state laws such as California’s Unruh Act ($4,000 statutory damages per violation) and New York’s.
  • Filings: about 3,100 website suits in the first half of 2026, projected at 6,176 for the year, up nearly 20 % (UsableNet). E-commerce is 79 % of them; 68 % of defendants are companies under $50 million in revenue; New York, Illinois, California and Florida lead.
  • Courts measure against WCAG 2.1/2.2 AA in practice. Settlements for small businesses typically run $5,000–25,000, and require remediation within 90–180 days.
  • Sites running an accessibility overlay widget were named in about 23 % of March 2026 suits; a widget is not treated as remediation.

What you get

  • A score per area and the list of findings grouped by cause, so "one faint footer link on 37 pages" is one row and one change.
  • A PDF report you can hand to a developer or an agency, with the exact element and page for each finding.
  • On Shopify: install the app to apply the fixes — the free plan includes 3 scans a month and 3 fixes every 30 days, no card.
