What does the readiness score measure?
It estimates how easy a Shopify theme is to bring into WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, based on the theme's architecture (Online Store 2.0 vs 1.0), the vendor's published Theme VPAT, and the AccessComply auto-fix coverage of the theme's known structural hot-spots. The score is not a violation count — every theme can be made conformant; the score predicts how much manual work that takes.
Why does Dawn score highest?
Dawn is Shopify's open-source reference Online Store 2.0 theme. Shopify publishes a Theme VPAT documenting WCAG 2.1 AA conformance for the unmodified theme. The structural patterns Dawn ships are well-aligned with AccessComply's deterministic auto-fix agents.
Why are legacy themes (Brooklyn, Debut, Narrative) lower?
Legacy themes use the Online Store 1.0 architecture, which lacks app-block support and ships pre-OS-2.0 cart-drawer / search markup that requires more retrofit work. Migration to a current OS 2.0 theme (Dawn or a maintained premium theme) is the long-term recommendation.
