Contrast (Enhanced)

Body text has a contrast ratio of at least 7:1 against its background; large text (≥18pt or ≥14pt bold) has at least 4.5:1.

What it requires

WCAG 2.0 SC 1.4.6 (AAA) raises the 1.4.3 contrast bar from 4.5:1 to 7:1 for body text. Few mainstream brand palettes pass this without significant darkening of body text.

AAA is rarely a legal requirement, but it is a meaningful design target for low-vision-focused brands and for accessibility-statement boilerplate that aspires beyond the Level AA floor.

Common Shopify failure

Theme defaults at 4.6:1 body-text contrast — passing AA but failing AAA.

How to fix it

Optional: AccessComply's ColorContrastAgent can target 7:1 instead of 4.5:1 when the merchant opts into AAA mode.
