Extended Audio Description (Prerecorded)
When pauses in foreground audio are insufficient for standard audio description to convey the visuals, an extended audio description with paused video is provided.
What it requires
WCAG 2.0 SC 1.2.7 (AAA) addresses videos where dialogue is so dense that there is no natural pause for inserting audio description. The fix is "extended" audio description — the video pauses, the description plays, the video resumes.
This is rarely needed on Shopify storefronts. Most product videos have ample pauses; brand videos with dense voiceover are the edge case.
Common Shopify failure
A founder-narrated video with continuous voiceover and key visual reveals during the same beats — no pause for audio description.
How to fix it
Re-edit the video with deliberate audio gaps that allow inline description, or produce an extended-description version where the video pauses for narration.
